Dress Code:
Watervliet’s official policy on
inappropriate clothing (that which is offensive, inappropriate
school attire, or interferes with the learning process of other
students)
The Watervliet School Board bans all inappropriate attire (all
clothing or accessories which disrupt the educational process).
This includes but is not limited to: attire bearing any
expression or insignia which can be considered obscene,
intimidating, malicious, promoting violent behavior, promoting
tobacco, alcohol or other drug use, promoting illegal activity
or be offensive or prejudicial in its message to anyone on any
basis, including racism, violence, gender, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, disability or political affiliation.
Also prohibited:

Wearing of hats, bandanas (on any body
part), sweatbands, visors and other head gear, as well as
wristbands

Spike/slave collars and bracelets and
wallet chains

Revealing attire (i.e. showing underwear,
midriff, buttocks or cleavage), undergarments worn as outer
clothing, tube tops, net tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps,
plunging necklines and sheer/see-through garments.

No tank tops of any type

Shorts and skirts must fall below
fingertips when arms are extended down length of leg

Coats (as defined as outerwear other than
sweaters, sweatshirts or hooded sweatshirts with or without
zippers, fleece, suit jacket or blazer)

Gang paraphernalia

Sunglasses

Watervliet Elementary School ONLY:
Students are required to wear footgear that allows them to
participate safely in all school activities. Students go outside
on the playgrounds daily for recess, and participate in physical
education at least twice a week. Shoes such as rubber flip
flops, athletic slides, and unsafe heels are inappropriate for
these situations - all footgear must attach securely to the
student's feet.
Note: Any adult in the building can make a
judgment on inappropriate attire. Appeals should be brought to the
administration.
Consequences
First offense:

Student asked to substitute the article of
clothing for a suitable one

Contact parent/guardian, if necessary
Second offense:
Third offense and
thereafter:
