Fourth-grade teacher receives CAP COM Cares for Classrooms award
Dec. 16, 2011
A Watervliet Elementary School classroom will soon
receive some new supplies thanks to the CAP COM Cares for Classrooms
Fourth-grade teacher Kelly Webster and special education teacher Colleen Schilling received a $250 VISA gift card from the credit union as part of CAP COM’s Cares for Classrooms Program that rewards teachers who promote teamwork and community service in the classroom. The gift cards are for the purchase of classroom supplies and materials to support the teachers’ efforts.
“My students and I are super excited to receive this award,’ Webster said. “We’ve already decided what we’re going to buy.”
Webster said her fourth-grade students suggested purchasing a couple of bean bag chairs that would be reserved for those students who exhibit positive behavior each week as part of the school’s character education program. A new carpet to gather on during the classroom’s morning meeting, some books and games, such as flash cards, were also on the list.
Watervliet Elementary School partners with Capital Communications Federal Credit Union for its school banking program that teaches children about banking and the importance of saving money. The school banking programs allows students to bring deposits into school on their scheduled banking day.
