Whether you're a democrat, a
republican, an independent, a green or somewhere in between,
everyone was focused on Election 2008. Students throughout
the Watervliet City School District were no different, and
teachers throughout the district took advantage of the
election cycle's abundance of
"teachable moments."
Today, WJSHS students and staff
crowded into the Media Center to see history made as
Barack Obama
became nation's 44th president.
"This is SO cool," said one student,
amidst clapping and chants of "OBAMA! OBAMA" that broke out
periodically throughout the ceremony.
"This day was a great opportunity for
our students to live history instead of just reading about
it in a book," said Superintendent Paul Padalino.
"Well, that's a relief!" said one
student as the ceremony ended. "I wish he was my dad," said
her friend.
Many students at WES also watched the
inauguration.
