During the December 14 meeting, Watervliet Board of Education members unanimously voted to formally appoint Dr. Lori S. Caplan superintendent of schools—and thanked Dr. Paul Padalino for his seven years of service to the district.
The board expects to finalize terms of Dr. Caplan's contract prior to her official start date—Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.
"I am excited and energized to continue building upon the collaborative relationships I have spent the past seven years establishing with the Board of Education, teachers, staff, administrators, parents, local municipalities and businesses in the city as well as with community stakeholders,” Dr. Caplan said.
Caplan who began her career in education a little over 20 years ago—working as a teacher and coach in the Hudson City School District before becoming a middle school principal in Schenectady—has served as Watervliet High School principal since 2005.
“I take a great deal of pride in all of our accomplishments at the building and district level,” said Dr. Caplan, “and am looking forward to the opportunity to move the district forward in a positive, productive manner and ensuring our students are equipped with the 21st century skills they will need to be productive citizens in our community.”
