New Board of Education member Sheri Senecal takes oath

Scully to again serve as board president

The Watervliet City School District Board of Education elected Mark Scully for a third term as president and Jennifer Donovan as vice-president during its 2013-14 organizational meeting on Tuesday, July 2.

Mr. Scully is currently serving his fourth term on the board, while Mrs. Donovan is serving her second term.

New board member Sheri Senecal was sworn in for her first term during Tuesday’s meeting. Mrs. Senecal ran unopposed for the board.

A resident of the City of Watervliet since 2001, Mrs. Senecal graduated from Lake Howell High School in Winter Park, FL in 1991 and earned an Associates in Science degree in Office Management Technology and an Associates in Arts degree from Seminole Community College in Sanford, FL. She is an executive program assistant with the New York State Department of Health. Last year, Mrs. Senecal was president of the Watervliet Elmentary School Parent Teacher Association, and has served in other roles on the PTA since 2009.

She replaces board member Christine Chartrand, who did not seek re-election this year.

The board also set its 2013-14 meeting schedule. The board will hold its regular monthly meetings on the following dates:

Other board news

During its June meeting, the Watervliet Board of Education unanimously voted to extend the contract of Superintendent Dr. Lori Caplan by one year to June 30, 2016. Her original three-year contract would have expired at the end of June 2015. Dr. Caplan was appointed in January 2012 at an annual salary of $130,000.
