Assistant principal steps up to role of school leader, teachers join leadership team

As students return to school, they will notice a few familiar faces in different spaces.

Loida Lewinter who served as assistant principal at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School has been appointed Watervliet Elementary School Principal. Former grade 4 teacher Kelly Webster has moved into Mrs. Lewinter’s spot as assistant principal at WJSHS, and long-time grade 6 teacher Don Stevens has also left the classroom to become the school district’s Director of Literacy and Universal Prekindergarten.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lori Caplan said these appointments show the district’s commitment to promoting talent from within its own ranks.

"We were fortunate to have a strong pool of talented educators right here in the district to consider for these leadership positions," she said. “I am confident that the team we have in place this year will provide the stability that allows us to move forward in a cohesive way to support our students, faculty and staff.”
