Four candidates vying for two seats on the Board of Education

Four candidates are in the running for two open seats on the Watervliet Board of Education. The two candidates receiving the highest vote totals will serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2018. Candidates are listed in the order their names will appear on the ballot: Heather Soroka, Shawn Smeltzer, Theresa DeChiaro and Amanda Cavanaugh. More about the candidates


Board of Education adopts school budget proposal, vote set for May 15

The Watervliet Board of Education has adopted a $27.4 million budget proposal for the 2018-19 school year. The proposed budget will be presented for public vote on Tuesday, May 15. Information on the proposed school budget

2018-19 Proposed Budget at a Glance:

•   Budget total: $27,411,000

•   Spending Increase: 2.69 percent

•   Tax Levy Increase: 2.03 percent

Voting will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at two locations: Watervliet Elementary School (2557 10th Avenue) and the Watervliet Elks Lodge (501 4th Avenue).


2018-19 budget presentations set for April 10, April 14

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lori Caplan and School Business Manager Keith Heid invite parents, staff, students and community members to two upcoming budget presentations.

The first presentation is the WES PTA meeting on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria.

The second is the annual budget breakfast on Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 a.m. in the WJSHS administrative conference room. Enjoy light breakfast fare prepared by the high school gourmet foods class and discuss the 2018-19 school budget in an informal setting.


Nominating petitions available for Watervliet CSD Board of Education

Two seats on the Watervliet City School District Board of Education will be up for election in May. If you are interested in running for a three-year term on the school board, stop by the district office, 1245 Hillside Drive, to pick up a petition. Learn more about running for the school board
